Tree portraits

Trees are as much individuals as animals and people are. I’ve had it in the back of my mind for a while to try doing some straightforward tree portraits, or even some not straightforward ones, as I roam around the forest here.
This is a start. Nothing fancy, nothing dramatic, and not even, to tell you the truth, very interesting. I have nowhere to go but up. I believe there is a lot of up to explore, however, so I’ll be shooting plenty more of these and—who knows?—I might even get better.

Downtown Eugene, Friday night

Friday night downtown: Nothing much going on except for the fog.
I’ve been loving the 21/3.2 lens. Shooting with it on the K20D is like real photography again. Simple. Direct. Like an old Brownie, but with great quality.
The New York Times has an incredible photo essay on Obama’s staff and supporters here. Makes me want to get busy on portraits again.
The fun thing is to look at each portrait and figure out what the person’s connection is, without reading the text.
His people are geekier than I had realized.
