Taking down the old house
Taking down the 1880s-vintage part of our house, board by board, in the hopes of re-using the lumber when we build a new addition.

HDR self portrait with the Pentax K7
Spent some more time after work this evening shooting in-camera HDR black and white around the garden, in the fiercely bright late-afternoon light. The effect ranges from very cool to very weird, but truly does tame contrast as much as BW film can.
This photo might be at the weirder end of the spectrum.
My only complaint is that, as near as I can tell, you can’t use a self-timer for your HDR shots. That means a little shutter jiggle for landscapes (OK, Pentax wants you to buy an electronic remote, I get it) and an outstretched arm for self portraits.
Back from the wilds….
Two weeks of late-season backpacking in Southern Oregon: Crisp days, some wind and rain and a whiff of snow. No phone calls, no email, no deadlines.
Just get up each day when the sun hits the tent, have a leisurely breakfast with maybe a second cup of tea, pack some lunch and begin walking through beautiful, empty wilderness. Climb an easy peak, maybe, or explore a side trail. Sit in the sun. Circle back to the tent after 10 or 12 miles of wandering around and have dinner. Read. Go to sleep when it’s dark.
Lather, rinse, repeat….
And now it’s back to photography and writing.
